Rainwater Harvesting for Irrigation
Rainwater harvesting for irrigation consists of a huge collection area which is generally hard surface land. The water from the collection area is then transported to the storage reservoir via piping systems and channels. The reservoir can be either a pond or storage tank. The tank can be installed above ground or underground.
Since the rainwater will be used for irrigation the material the tank is made from is unimportant but the tank itself should be strong enough to hold many tons of water. Rainwater doesn’t compromise the quality of the crops.
Irrigated agriculture accounts for about 65 percent of all water use in Australia.
